Chinese Restaurant Matchbook Covers

Title

Chinese Restaurant Matchbook Covers

Description

Chinese noodle restaurants had existed in Spokane since at least the 1910s. By 1935, Chinese food in Spokane appeared to have gained a level of acceptance as an October 26, 1935 article in the Spokesman-Review described the Chinese offerings at the Dutch Mill as an “innovation for Spokane diners-out.” The matchbook covers seen here are from restaurants in downtown Spokane that would have existed in the mid-20th century. The covers are from the personal collection of Elizabeth Wood.
